Still within easy walking distance is another ancient Inn, with a much more modern name, The Intrepid Fox. It is also a very good pub. It offers food that is slightly more simple than that available at "The Cat", but it is no less delicious for that.
The next village, Sharpthorne, is a mile further away and here you will find the local village shop, a garage, another pub and there are numerous farm shops in the area as well.
Turning to attractions slightly further afield, The Bluebell Railway offers excellenet value and enjoyment with steam rides through the beautiful countryside between East Grinstead and Sheffield Park. Great tea rooms there, beautiful gardens and what can only be described as an eclectic range of British Wines for sale. Have tea at The Elephants on the way back. You will know where we mean when you pass them!
Other gardens to visit include Wakehurst Place with its world famous Millennium Seed Bank. This is based in Ardingly and the South of England Show ground is actually at the other end of Ham Lane, so again in easy walking distance. They host a wide range of shows and events throughout the year, so we are ideally placed to beat the queues if there is a particular show that you have come to visit.
Just outside Ardingly sits Ardingly Resevoir, which has yachting, sailing, wind-surfing etc. It is a Royal Yachting and British Canoe Union approved centre, so ideal for those who either want to learn a new skill or to hone an existing one.
If that wasn't sufficient, don't forget that Ashdown Forest and Pooh Bridge is just six miles (ten minutes) to the East of us. The South Down Way (on the wonderful South Downs!) is within 25 minutes and we can organise riding safari's, pony days and much much more for our guests. All you need to do is ask!
